Fix macOS permissions for Macro X
If a macro does nothing, clicks don’t happen, or hotkeys are ignored, macOS is almost always blocking Macro X. Three switches fix it.
Steps
- Open System Settings. Choose Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Allow Accessibility. Open Accessibility and switch Macro X on. This lets it click and type.
- Allow Input Monitoring. Open Input Monitoring and switch Macro X on. This lets it record keys and hear hotkeys.
- Allow Screen Recording. Open Screen & System Audio Recording and switch Macro X on. This lets it find images and colours.
- Quit and reopen Macro X. macOS only applies new permissions after the app restarts.
What each permission does
Accessibility
Lets Macro X move the mouse, click and type for you.
Input Monitoring
Lets Macro X record your keys and listen for its hotkeys.
Screen Recording
Lets Macro X find images and colours on screen.
Questions
Macro X is switched on but still can’t click. What now?
Remove Macro X from the Accessibility list with the minus button, add it again, then restart Macro X. Updates can leave an old entry behind.
Why does it need Screen Recording?
Only to look for images and colours on screen. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
Does Macro X tell me what’s missing?
Yes. The permissions check in Macro X shows which ones are missing and opens the right page in System Settings.
